Introduce yourself to Tarantino, one of the five local bands supporting Hockey Dad at our huge Underproof show next month.
If you’re growing up around the Northern Beaches and keeping an eye on your local scene, there’s a hot chance you’ve heard about Tarantino. After taking home the Audience Award at KALOF’s last Northern Composure comp, theirs is a name on everyone’s lips.
They’re also one of the five emerging bands selected to play alongside Hockey Dad at our Underproof show at the end of the month. Before the gig, we caught up with Tarantino to find out what they’re all about.
HAPPY: Hey, how are things? What are you up to at the moment?
TARANTINO: Currently we are focusing a lot on improving and forming our sound while writing more music (sometimes at the expense of our HSC).
HAPPY: Tell us about yourselves. How did the band start out?
TARANTINO: We all go to school together and are in the same music class. We used to jam a lot so when we heard about Northern Composure this year we decided to enter as a band and give it a go.
HAPPY: For the new fans, what is the band’s elevator pitch?
TARANTINO: Redefining sexy.
HAPPY: Give us a little bit of a vibe on your live show. What’s the setup like?
TARANTINO: Playing live shows for us is all about the crowd and making sure everyone’s getting amongst it. We try to get as many people as we can and always chuck a few crowd-pleasers in the set.

HAPPY: What do you love about the scene around the Northern Beaches at the moment?
TARANTINO: While the live music scene isn’t exactly thriving at the moment, especially for young people, PCYC at Dee Why has improved it heaps and given many opportunities for smaller bands like us since it was built. The team at KALOF is putting in a lot of work to make that happen as well.
HAPPY: What other bands are you listening to right now?
TARANTINO: We all come from really different music backgrounds so our overall taste is very broad. Artists we all love include DMA’s, Mac Miller, The Vanns, Oasis, of course, Sticky Fingers and classics like The Jackson Five.
HAPPY: Very soon you’ll be playing the Underproof show with Hockey Dad, are you psyched? Anything special planned?
TARANTINO: It’s gonna be a thrill to play with some of Australia’s best from Hockey Dad, it’s slowly sinking in now. We’re cooking up some fresh bangers right now, better bring your snags cos it’s gonna get saucy.
HAPPY: Tell us about what else you have coming up?
TARANTINO: Our main focus as we said is writing great music and hopefully releasing some in the near future. We’re all determined and putting in the work, so keep an eye out for us cos big things are coming.
