There seems to be a new wave of killer free parties hitting Sydney of late. From north to south, east to west, pubs and bars are opening their doors to all in the name of a good time. Who can disagree with that?
Every Friday night, The Golden Sheaf in Double Bay has been sorting out knock-off drinks with Out of Office, a weekly free gig series bringing DJs and live acts from all over Australia into the venue. For the first time last week, we checked in to see what was up.
For a Friday night session in Sydney’s east, look no further than Out of Office at The Sheaf. Here’s what went down when we checked it out.
When we arrived, Rash Bandicoot was hitting the meaty end of his two-and-a-half hour set, and drinks were flowing. Every Friday from 6pm marks the moment a new cocktail menu opens up, and the patrons were happily enjoying the refreshments.
As Rash finished up, it was Emily Scott’s turn to jump in, a local house/tech-house DJ who has shared decks with some of the world’s best, including Eric Morillo and Sam Divine.
Scott’s set hit a flying start as more and more folks started strutting their stuff on the dance floor, and soon enough the place was pumping. Bouncing elegantly from track to track with plenty of flair, she kept the vibes high right until the night wrapped.
The music was just what everyone needed on a Friday night, and the weekend was off to a killer start. You can bet we’ll be returning to The Sheaf, and soon.
