It works equally well as a clean boost, low-gain overdrive or fuzz-leaning saturation pedal, responding beautifully to picking dynamics and your guitar’s volume control.
Clever additions like pre/post EQ switching and symmetrical or asymmetrical clipping give it far more range than its simple layout suggests. Like every Tonecat pedal, it’s handcrafted in small batches and proves boutique pedals don’t need endless controls to sound fantastic.
Sometimes less really is more. The Shinos White Pedal is a high-headroom clean boost that focuses on preserving your existing tone while delivering up to 20dB of transparent gain. There’s no unnecessary EQ or added coloration, just extra push, volume and authority exactly where you need it.

The standout Spur control acts as a tilt EQ, letting players quickly adapt the pedal to different guitars and amps without overcomplicating things.
It responds naturally to picking dynamics, retains excellent note definition and encourages players to work with their guitar rather than endless controls. Handmade locally with loads of personality, the Plover Drive proves simple designs can still be seriously rewarding.
Built by Slovenian maker Couch Electronics, the Blue Whale is a Bluesbreaker-inspired overdrive that adds extra output, top-end sparkle and midrange bite to a familiar recipe. It excels as a low-gain tone enhancer, giving clean amps more body and confidence without overwhelming the original sound. Push the gain and it delivers articulate breakup that remains touch-sensitive and responsive under the fingers.
Premium relay switching, thoughtful power options and custom-designed hardware reinforce its handmade pedigree. It won’t satisfy players chasing extreme gain, but for indie, blues and edge-of-breakup tones, the Blue Whale is beautifully voiced.
For this Pedal Month session, One Control showcased three compact pedals covering drive, delay and reverb. Handmade in Quebec, the Wawa Nolett Ko-Gok Distortion V4 packs surprising versatility into a compact enclosure. Its two distinct gain voices move effortlessly between modern distortion and fuzzier, vintage-inspired textures, making it equally useful for heavier rock or classic garage tones.
Straightforward controls allow plenty of shaping without overwhelming the player, while the handmade construction gives it genuine boutique appeal. Rather than chasing one specific circuit, the Ko-Gok focuses on providing practical, musical gain across a broad range of applications. It’s a distinctive Canadian-built pedal with plenty of personality and an approachable price point.
Flattley’s The Joker is a no-nonsense overdrive built around classic valve amp feel. It moves comfortably from clean boost through crunchy overdrive into richer saturation, delivering natural compression and harmonic warmth without becoming overly modern or clinical. A single tone control keeps setup quick and intuitive, making it ideal for players who prefer playing over tweaking.

It cleans up beautifully with your guitar’s volume knob, responds naturally to picking dynamics and moves effortlessly between low-gain warmth, crunchy rhythm and singing lead tones.
