Pete Doherty has been hospitalised by an infectious hedgehog

Former frontman of The Libertines, Pete Doherty has been taken to hospital after being stabbed by a hedgehog spine and contracting an infection. It’s a great day for hedgehogs.

After the release of the new Sonic the Hedgehog trailer, the cute little savages have stuck again, spearing Pete Doherty and taking him down .

In a simple twist of fate, Pete Doherty has been pricked by a hedgehog and hospitalised. Hence the saying, never be a hero.

Doherty was scheduled to be a guest on Nihal Arthanayake’s BBC Radio 5 Live show but fate struck him down.

“Pete Doherty is now in hospital having the infected hedgehog spine removed from his finger,” said Arthanayake.

The 40-year old was taking his pet Siberian huskies for a walk, when one of the dogs came across the prickly animal and thought they’d have the hedgehog for a snack. Heroic Pete rescued the creature from the canine’s mouth but received a prick in return. Oh well, you can’t win them all.

As is only customary, Doherty took to social media to explain how on earth this tragedy occurred. The cut he got from the “wee bugger” later became infected but the folks at England’s NHS and Manchester Royal Infirmary are tending to him.

Who knows? Perhaps Pete will write another hit song whilst licking his wounds, of perhaps the huskies are licking them for him. Either way it’s a rather bizarre piece of news in a globally significant day for hedgehogs.
