PREMIERE: Imitating Aeroplanes get weirder than weird in their new clip Stomping Ground

Imitating Aeroplanes have given us enough weird Skandi vibes for a whole year in their new music video Stomping Ground.

Somehow they manage to integrate otherworldly beings, environmentally friendly transport, the apocalypse and a spontaneous jam session all in one clip. There’s a lot going on, but the sweet pop that they are handing out makes it all ok.

Take it from director Anna Leijonhielm, who said pretty much everything which needs to be said:

“The music video is about three humans being awakened by a fireball from their deep sleep in a world full of things just happening. As a creature leads them into a different space, the fear is short-lived as they dare to follow her. Will their eyes be closed or open?”

For now all we want to do is jump on a plane to Oslo to meet Imitating Aeroplanes, follow a fox under a bridge and be taken to the far corners of outer space.

The band is based in Oslo and features members of The Wombats and Team Me, a brilliant musical collaboration if ever there was one.

Opening on the boys passed out from what we can assume is a night of debauchery, the news plays on the television nearby. Is it the end of the world? We are yet to find out, but something triggers the guys to make tracks and venture out on their little enviro bikes. It’s as European as you can imagine, but simultaneously hilarious.

They finally arrive at a truly stunning boardwalk sculptural installation. The guys find a meteorite and are obviously triggered into jamming on the boardwalk. Within moments, a fox-cross-human lures them into a glitter soaked shanty town beneath the bridge.

It’s here where they begin to dance in a kind of ritualistic manner, subtitles flashing their inquisition of this new found friend. They’re from outer space, and want to take Imitating Aeroplanes to their world.

Overall the clip is fun, there’s so many weird plot lines and kooky qualities that the band just becomes more and more loveable with each frame. The song is great too, big fun indie pop, driving guitars and clear smooth vocals, it’s accessibility is an interesting juxtaposition to just how far out the music video for Stomping Ground is.

Imitating Aeroplanes released their debut LP Planet Language on September 22nd. Check it out here.
