San Cisco, GUM and Ginoli have created a track that oozes with the melodrama of teen heartbreak, with the darkness of a rave-cave at 4 am.
Fremantle trio, San Cisco, are notorious for creating summer-studded bops that travel across sonic landscapes and unchartered lyrical dimensions – an ideal exemplified in their heartbreaking indie-pop single, Skin.
However, with the help of GUM (Tame Impala) & Ginoli (Pond), Skin, San Cisco have forced their creative rainbow into a black and white prism – combining the soul of their original banga, with a Detroit-House drum kick and a bassline that hits the very back of your throat.
The result is something seemingly alien from San Cisco’s sound, yet undeniably familiar in how it ebbs and flows – music that sounds as much alive, as it does malevolent.
“We were so excited for GUM & Ginoli to come onboard and reimagine one of our songs.” San Cisco said.
“We love this darker, electronic take on ’Skin’. The crusty old drum machines and synthesizers used on the track give it a moody and cinematic vibe which we dig.”
Needless to say, Happy Mag is pleased to announce that you can catch an early listen of the melancholic floor-filler, which you can catch here.
James Ireland, known better as Ginoli, is no stranger to collaborating with San Cisco’s Jordi Davieson, Josh Biondillo and Scarlett Stevens.
San Cisco’s latest album Between You And Me, saw the multi-faceted-instrumentalist give his production and mixing talents on ‘Skin’, as well as the whole album.
This past year, Between You And Me, has reached unbelievable heights, debuting at #3 in the Australia ARIA charts, and securing the coveted Triple J feature album on the week of release.
GUM & Ginoli confirmed that the collaboration was a no-brainer, as two sonic worlds did not necessarily collide – but instead met in the middle and seamlessly merged together.
“Being good mates with San Cisco, we knew we had some common ground musically – things like French electronic music and Frank Ocean,” GUM & Ginoli said.
Jordi’s voice worked surprisingly well with our style of production and it was one of the easiest and most enjoyable remixes we’ve worked on.
“The remix itself is a tale of two halves, a slow burn that builds, and we’re really stoked with the way it turned out.”
If that wasn’t enough, San Cisco are gearing up for an extensive national tour to show Between You And Me to the whole of Australia. Their first national tour since 2019, with the help of none other than Jaguar Jonze, it’s clear that this is going to be the tour of a literal lifetime.
