Sydney folk singer, Oly Sherman, brings the nostalgic heat with his new single In The Summer.
The track sets the temperature for Sherman’s dynamically illuminating album, Land Of All Pretend, set for release June 18.
In mid 2019, Happy had a chat with Sherman whilst he was recording his second EP, Three Oh Three.
Since then, the creatively bursting artist has wasted no time in painting new soundscapes and piecing together his next project.
The track trickles with golden flecks of light, grounded by the heavy lyricism of waking up alone.
In The Summer is saturated in acoustic tones, with Sherman’s vocals dancing circles around the gorgeously oceanic melody.

The single, is described by the artist as a “peaceful breakup song”. What makes this track so intricately beautiful is Sherman’s Vance Joy-like tones, creating vividly sonic imagery.
You simply cannot help but feel a wave of warmth from the softly calming melody, an intentional theme of the tune despite Sherman writing it in the midst of a rough breakup.
Whilst Sherman was swirling around the pain of an ended relationship, he shines his infatuating light on the goodness that came from the time spent – an enlightening and refreshing gulp of rhythm compared to the bitter, anger-driven breakup songs we are accustomed to hearing.
