Red Engine Caves

Fresh off of their Australian East Coast tour, Fremantle rockers the Red Engine Caves have successfully shown lovers of rock ‘n roll just how it’s done. Having graced Bondi’s Beach Road Hotel with their sweaty presence, plus an array of other popular venues last month, there is no doubt that 2014 will be a big year for these West Coast eagles.

If you’re anything like me, it will probably come as a surprise that Ricky, Ralf and Mitch are not actually a band of middle-aged rockers who have been gigging since the dawn of time… but rather three young (and fine looking) men who have only been together since 2011. Taking away the emphasis from vocals has allowed for a shift in focus to the energetic percussion and infectious hooks and riffs of the electric gee-tars. The Red Engine Caves are indeed a refreshing change from the electronic and over-produced music of right now, and instead offer a raw, albeit modern, take on psychedelic rock and blues.

For all of you pretty Perth people out there, catch them on Sunday March 23 @ Mojos Bar, Fremantle, supporting the King Gizzard boys. I’m jealous. For the rest of you ugly sods, stream their debut EP, Black Mary, here! Enjoy.
