Creepy Radiohead reference discovered in ‘Resident Evil Village’

As Resident Evil Village reaches the peak of its launch cycle, something profound and mysterious has been discovered: a Radiohead reference.

While most players spent their time in the recent Resident Evil Village demos trying to survive monster attacks and terrifying jump scares, one cool-as-a-cucumber player had another idea. As the buildings around them burned and monsters hounded them from every angle, this player simply held their nerve and stared at a seemingly insignificant portion of the background.

Located on what appears to be a pill container or canister of bleach (it’s difficult to tell as the image is rather zoomed in) is a section of the lyrics to Creep by iconic art-rockers Radiohead. Certainly a somewhat appropriate inclusion considering the personalities on display in Resident Evil Village.

In fact, lines like “you’re just like an angel, your skin makes me cry” seem like exactly the kind of thing everyone’s favourite giant sex bomb – Lady Dimitrescu to the unconverted – would jam to. Or on second thought, perhaps the sort of lyrics some weird internet fanboy would write about her.

Anyways, this isn’t a conspiracy, there is definitely a connection.

How or why these lyrics managed to make their way into the game remains unclear. The most likely explanation is that they were placeholder text and were meant to be swapped to something more relevant before the game launched. And they didn’t because, well, we all make mistakes sometimes.

That, or Capcom has an out-and-proud member of the Radiohead fan club that is deviously pulling strings to subconsciously program the rest of the world into Radiohead servitude. Hail to the computer, ok?

The road to Resident Evil Village sure has been a bit of a rollercoaster. I’m hard pressed to think of a marketing campaign that has had as many bizarre tangents and unorthodox reveals. Considering everything that has already happened, I’m almost inclined to believe this Radiohead reference is just another stretch in their viral promotion parade. Either way, with the official release just around the corner, it all appears to be coming to its end.

Resident Evil Village releases May 7 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
