Today the popular media of the world is spreading the love of Sainsbury’s, the second largest supermarket chain in the UK, because they’re selling same sex Valentine’s Day cards for the first time ever.
It’s a pro move, but everyone needs to take a step back because this is hardly the first time anybody has done this.
Yes, Sainsbury’s is making progress by selling same sex Valentine’s cards for the first time in history, but theirs isn’t an original idea.
It’s wrong not to praise Sainsbury’s for this decision, but we just urge you to take it with a grain of salt. We’re in a world where activism sells, and supporting same sex couples should be a no brainer for any corporation this large. The fact that they’ve waited until 2017 to do this would leave some a little skeptical.
If you’re after same sex Valentine’s cards, we recommend heading to a site which supports the artists behind the designs, the leader being Etsy, who have a huge range of ‘Gay Valentine’ products you can choose from.
Well done to Sainsbury’s for their support of same sex couples, but let’s try to see the other side of the coin as well.
