Sonic Youth are doing their bit by selling COVID-19 face masks and t-shirts to raise money for numerous charities to assist struggling communities during times of inequality and crisis.
Sonic Youth have launched a COVID-19 merch bundle for charity which includes a Sonic Nurse t-shirt and face mask.
Sonic Youth announced on their website that a portion of the merch sales will go towards charities that are working towards helping out communities with intentions to stamp out poverty, gender indifferences and racial inequalities in America. These non-for-profit organisations include The Brooklyn Community Bail Fund, Bed Stuy Strong, and ActBlue: AOC’s COVID Relief Fund.
The COVID-19 themed apparel comes as a red face mask and t-shirt bundle. We reckon the get-up would like pretty good when paired with a colour coordinated DEVO red energy dome.
The clever design choice fatures a nurse printed on the front of the tee which could be a reference to the experimental band’s thirteenth studio album, Sonic Nurse. Check that out below:
The group have also been pretty prolific lately, releasing a number of rare and unreleased live albums for purchase through their Bandcamp archive. Meanwhile, Thurston Moore (former Sonic youth frontman) released a song, May Daze, just last month under his solo project.
“A soundtrack for our USA sisters + brothers to register as voters today, if you still need to,” they wrote in a statement on Bandcamp.
The noise rock group from New York have always proven to be a radical voice for the oppressed and neglected, being unorthodox members of society themselves. Even since their disbandment, this move shows that the band are still keeping up with prevailing global issues.
Purchase your Sonic Nurse mask and t-shirt bundle directly through the Sonic Youth website.
