Star Wars Episode I: Racer set for launch on PS4 and Switch

In need of a nostalgia fix? Star Wars Episode I: Racer was a title for Nintendo 64, released in 1999. Now, it’s headed for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch and set for release on May 12.

The original game was released alongside Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Say what you like about the movie, but the game was a landmark for the Nintendo 64, bringing the film’s podrace scene to life in the game world. More than two decades on now is as good a time as any to get back in the race. Star Wars Episode I-Racer

Star Wars Episode I: Racer was a classic title for the Nintendo 64. Now the podrace is set to return, this time on the PS4 and the Nintendo Switch.

The reissue of Racer means that once again, you can be Anakin Skywalker, or an alien, like Ben Quadrinaros or Sebulba and dodge the Tusken Raiders.

James Vicari—from developers, Aspyr—explained the rationale behind the reboot in an interview with StarWars.com:

I think Racer, like Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast before it, has two crucial qualities: it’s a great game and it has emotional resonance.

Thankfully for players on the PS4 and Switch, the new version will feature upgraded controls, which will take full advantage of the Switch’s joy-cons, for example.
