Sunbeam Sound Machine Reveals Their Fave Music of 2014

Earlier this year we were all treated to the amazing, evocative, mind expanding soundscapes of Sunbeam Sound Machine and his debut album Wonderer. It was full of insightful lyrics and incredibly moving instrumentation. The long and short of it is that Happy likes this guy a lot, okay? We like him so much we even decided to step down from our taste making throne and let young Nick Sowersby do the criticising, and he came back to us with his impressive list of what he has deemed to be the best of 2014. What do you think. Check out his picks below!

Sunbeam list

One of the breakout stars of 2014, Sunbeam Sound Machine has carved out an impressive careers thus far. Nick Sowersby takes a look back at the songs that left him inspired and impressed.

Hot Water – King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

Probably my song of the year. That bass line is so slippery.

Tibetan Clouds – Chips Calipso

This song takes me even higher than Chips Calipso’s cheekbones. It’s beautiful.

Can’t Do Without You – Caribou

I have a really annoying habit of singing the main looped bit of this song, in the slow-motion voice, repeatedly whenever I’m doing something around the house. Let’s call that a testament to how good this song is.

High (Feat. Danny Brown) – Freddie Gibbs & Madlib

Madlib is a genius and Freddie Gibbs is smooth as and Danny Brown is hilarious. This song proves all of those things.

Holdin – Grouper

Ruins was the most beautiful album I heard all year. I could have picked any song from it.

Passing Out Pieces – Mac Demarco

“Yeah…”

Rogues – Methyl Ehtel

This song is so deceptively simple, but the more I listen to it the more I find going on inside it.

Digital Witness – St Vincent

Mainly for the start of the song. It’s so pretty but it really punches you in the head but it also makes you want to groove a bit.

Dawn In Luxor/Forerunner Foray – Shabazz Palaces

This is a two-in-one because they run into each other and I can’t decide which I like more. It sounds like it’s from outer space but it’s very human at the same time.

Most Really Pretty Girls Have Really Ugly Feet – HNNY

This is a late entry. My housemate showed me this song about two days ago. Despite the very, very shitty title it’s a very, very good song.
