The Game Awards have just released a complete list of all the nominees for their 2021 event. The ceremony will go ahead in December of this year but, as with any awards night, there is bound to be some controversy.
2021 has been a mixed year for the video game industry, and that is reflected in the list of nominees for this year’s The Game Awards. While there have been a number of fantastic titles that far exceeded our expectations, there are a number of titles we were expecting to appear on this list that don’t.
Sure a few titles let us down, but what I’m really getting at is the seemingly endless list of pandemic related delays and postponements. I for one was really banking on being able to play at least one of God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West or Elden Ring by the year’s end.
However, that unfortunate reality shouldn’t diminish a year that had more than its fair share of sleeper hits, which have thankfully been recognised through their inclusion on The Game Awards’ shortlist.
Titles like Deathloop, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Resident Evil Village and 12 Minutes have combined to create a year that is far more memorable than it might have otherwise been – and for that we salute them. Deathloop in particular, which will lead the pack at the the 2021 edition of The Game Awards, has received a whopping 9 nominations.
