A video game based on ‘The Mandalorian’ is likely on the way

A short time ago in a galaxy very, very close… an industry insider has leaked that production for a video game based on The Mandalorian is underway.

The video game industry is no stranger to leaks and the Star Wars franchise is definitely not an exception. According to an insider, The Mandalorian is likely to be the latest piece of Star Wars material that gets its own video game.

Coming in just before this year’s Star Wars day, rumours have been flying around claiming that The Mandalorian video game will be a thing. This news follows shortly after it was announced last month that Star Wars: The Bad Batch, a new Disney+ series, will officially be released on May 4th, 2021.

The Mandalorian video game

Seasoned industry insider and XboxEra founder, Nick ‘Shpeshal Ed’ Baker recently took to Twitter suggesting that plans to produce a The Mandalorian video game have already begun.

“Ok. So you’ll notice…there’s a Mandalorian Funko on [Xbox boss] Phil’s Spencer’s shelf. Yes. Someone is making a Mandalorian game.”

However, shortly after Baker’s tweet, he quickly followed up with some clarification on the details. This reversal was probably to, you know, ensure that his reputation as an insider still remained credible and intact.

“Ok, so liiiiittle bit of a whoopsie…Yeah, there’s going to be a Mando game. But um…that’s apparently not a Mando Funko. I might have just said something I wasn’t supposed to yet. Hoping I didn’t just burn my source. Got some apologising to do.”

Speculation was also rampant after Phil Spencer, the current Xbox boss, was seen showcasing a Mandalorian Funko Pop. It was later proven to be a false alarm though, as some due diligence ended up showing that the Funko Pop was actually Arbiter from Halo.

But while this is exciting news indeed, it’s best to curb your expectations. Currently, no one from Disney has commented on the leak. There’s also been barely any word on the rumoured remake of the iconic Knights of the Old Republic, which fans have been speculating will receive some attention this upcoming Star Wars Day.

Regardless, fans are already abuzz with opinions regarding what the Mandalorian video game should eventually be like.

The Mandalorian has been so popular that Disney has continued to greenlight more content based on the franchise, starting production on several spin-off television series including Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and Rangers of the New Republic. A video game shouldn’t surprise anyone considering all the other material in the works.

It’s certainly been a delight for Star Wars fans over the past few years. Season two of The Mandalorian was produced rather quickly, and is set for release only a year after the first season –no doubt due to popular demand. That’s why for now, all we can do is wait for official confirmation of The Mandalorian video game by Disney… and keep our fingers crossed that it doesn’t take too long.

“Patience you must have, my young Padawan.”
