The nominees for the National Indigenous Music Awards are in with A.B. Original leading the charge

The National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMA) are set to take place in Darwin in a few weeks, celebrating the best in Indigenous Australian music. Unsurprisingly, A.B. Original are looking to steal the spotlight on the night, with four nominations to their name.

The four categories include Artist Of The Year, Album Of The Year (for their album Reclaim Australia), Song Of The Year and Film Clip Of The Year (both for single January 26). They’ll also be performing on the night alongside Dan Sultan, who is nominated in multiple categories too.

The nominations for the National Indigenous Music Awards are in, with A.B. Original leading the charge in four different categories.

Speaking with The Music, Trials said that the NIMA nominations are particularly important for the duo, given that “it’s the community [Reclaim Australia] is for”.

“They’re giving us the tip of the hat, saying they approve and that’s what the record was all about for us,” he said. “As far as awards and accolades go, NIMAs mean a lot to Briggs and I. It’s like a big family/school reunion for us, so we’re excited for it.”

The 2017 NIMA proceedings will be held at the Darwin Amphitheatre on Saturday August 12th. Along with A.B. Original and Dan Sultan, Paul Kelly, Numbulwar Red Flag Dancers, Leah Flanagan, Apakatjah, Electric Fields, Emily Wurramara and Gawurra will also be performing on the night.
