This is what Baby Yoda was originally going to look like

We all know and love Baby Yoda. The adorable little creature from the Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian has become a worldwide sensation.

Now the team behind the painfully cute design has released some of their test designs, and it is safe to say they chose the correct one.

The Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau has described some of the early designs for Baby Yoda as either being too ugly or too cute.

Showrunner Jon Favreau made the comments in the behind the scenes documentary for the Disney+ show. Favreau explained, “We got lots and lots of drawings. Some of them were too cute, some of them were too ugly, some of them were the wrong proportions.”

Baby Yoda has since become a meme of enormous proportions. His huge eyes and coffee mug have helped define the show. Favreau continued by saying, “Finally there was one image that Chris Alzmann did that had Baby Yoda wrapped up in what looked like a piece of a flight jacket. His eyes were a little weird, and he looked a little out of it, there was something a little off with it. But we found it charming, and that became the rallying image that we said, ‘This is good.’ And it developed from there.”

The second season of the hit show is scheduled for release later this year. Have a look at some of the strange and wonderful early designs for the character below.
