Grimes has always had a not-so-secret soft spot for Elvish folk, previously telling fans that she wanted “elf ear” surgery.
Grimes, the queen of lo-fi R&B, caused a stir among her fanbase when she posted to Twitter over the weekend, “I did smthn crazy,” along with an image of her with bandages wrapped around her ears.
The Canadian musician revealed: “Perfected the last song in the plastic surgery clinic cuz they wouldn’t let me leave and we were laughing that this was the most Hollywood moment of all time.”
Last month, Grimes expressed a desire to get “elf ear modifiers” and asked her fans for doctor recommendations. She said, “2 years ago I made an appt with a great plastic surgeon, thought I might want to change things up by my mid 30s, but then I forgot and never thought about what I should do.”
Happily sharing the thought process behind her decision, fans followed the singer’s journey as she weighed up her options: “Any face mods y’all think would look good on me? (Elf ears isn’t an option, that’s a separate quest).” She added, “Still debating this surgery (ear) cuz cartilage doesn’t heal so it requires permanent stitches.”
The ear shaping process, medically known as Otoplasty, is a procedure for reshaping ears to give them a normal appearance. However, it can also be utilised to create the opposite effect, generating an appearance that’s not human. The modified surgery comes with a price tag of up to $7,500.
Elf ears, in particular, are a trend that is gaining popularity around the world. China saw an ear surgery boom in late 2021, which saw one surgeon, Dr. Wenlin, performing up to six surgeries daily. The process is said to take one to two weeks, before bandages can be removed, so eager fans will have to wait a little longer before the big reveal.
