Two Last Names talk playing regional shows as a LGBTQIA+ band

Two Last Names offer a glimpse into “the random gigs you end up playing when you’re a LGBTQIA+ punk band living in the country.”

Fresh off the release of their latest single Interstate Growing Pains last week, we caught up with genre-defying Victorian outfit Two Last Names to find out what happens when a queer band tours the countryside.

From sound-checking to an old couple having a risotto at the bistro to a 3 pm daylight gig, Two Last Names are making a name for themselves, and being very freaking cool with it.

“We say yes to all sorts of stuff, lol. We’ve Played an adult queers social group at 3pm in the daylight while people were doing craft in the background. There was no booze and there was a community garden, lol. We are quite loud, so it was quite funny.

We’ve also played at an art gallery while people were looking at art. There was free champagne and food, and a rando obnoxious punk band for good measure!

Soon we’re playing at a pub in Ensay, Victoria. They have bushfire relief money and we’re pretty sure there is some sort of cattle muster up there on the same weekend. They’re trying to get more young people doing stuff in the area, and I imagine it’ll be real random, lol.”

“We’ve also played at a pub in Moe, Gippsland, where they gave us free Wet Pussy-esque shots on entry, and we were allowed to drink UNLIMITED all night. It was such a country pub vibe. We sound-checked to an old couple having a risotto at the bistro. They seemed shocked.”
