Video Premiere: Naked Maja

Thanks to drinking too much freezing cold beer on freezing cold Sydney autumn evenings, I think I’m coming down with the flu. Last night in my pseudoephedrine-addled sleep, my subconscious mind was going berserk: pulling up memories that I thought I had long forgotten and twisting them into some sort of insane version of reality.

Naked Maja have created a clip to their track Out of Mind – a gorgeously ethereal exploration of the human condition, and we’re very happy to be premiering it.

You know those odd, warped and incredibly vivid dreams you have when you’re sick? They have a name: FEVER DREAMS. You know the atmospheric-pop band from Brisbane who have just released some brand spankin’ new material? They have a name: NAKED MAJA. Bare with me here.

Do you know what happens when you combine these things and throw a chick called Megan Cullen into the mix? You get one badass, glittery, watery, dreamy, tinsel-heavy video clip to a lovely little track entitled Out of Mind. Which we are very proud to be premiering today.

Megan Cullen has worked with other electronic artists including LCMDF, Richie Hawtin, Scuba and Yung Skeeter. Her work has a softness that runs through it, a femininity if you like. Out of Mind is no exception. The track is gentle and the video reflects it, following a day in the life of a tinsel-wrapped city wanderer, journeying from grey landscapes to swimming pools to open fields. And finishing up and a sweet party full of dry ice.

Listing Brian Eno, Neu!, Slowdive, New Order, Roxy Music, The Cure and Aphex Twin amongst their influences, Naked Maja have two successful releases under their belt and have played a very healthy string of shows, both locally and interstate. Following the release of Out of Mind (their first for 2014), these guys will be celebrating on with an EP release party on Thursday 22 May 2014 at The Underdog in Brissy, with Keep On Dancin’s, No Sister and Ultra Material.
