Watch The Breeders’ new Richard Ayoade-directed video, shot all in one take

Richard Ayoade has directed a new video for The Breeders. The track is Spacewoman from their new album All Nerve and the clip is brilliant.

Richard Ayoade is a name you’d recognise as the presenter of TV show Travel Man or as Moss from I.T Crowd. He’s also directed feature films like Submarine (which featured a soundtrack by Alex Turner) and The Double. And he’s directed music videos for the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Vampire Weekend.

The Breeders spacewoman

Watch The Breeders’ new video for Spacewoman, which was directed by none other than Richard Ayoade (and shot all in one take).

He’s been a fan of The Breeders since he bought their album Pod as a young teen in the 90s. Now, nearly 30 years later, he has teamed up with his favourite band to create an eerie short story for their latest single.

Described by Kim Deal as “a sci-fi thriller with the soul of [deceased New Wave fiction writer] Harlan Ellison,” Ayoade’s video depicts her in a spacesuit navigating lush woodlands.

Shot on 35mm film and in one seamless take, she encounters fellow Breeders members Jim Macpherson, Josephine Wiggs and Kelley Deal in various states of trauma. Watch it below.

Back in March, The Breeders released All Nerve, their first record in a decade and their first in 25 years reuniting the best-known Breeders line-up of Kim and Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson, the same that featured on their most celebrated record, Last Splash.

Breeders will be in Australia for Fairgrounds FestivalMeredith Music Festival and a string of sideshows this December. Check out all their touring info here.
