Beyond The Valley have their New Year celebrations locked in, and the 2019/2020 artist instalment is stacked with local and domestic favourites.

Tyler the Creator

The artist behind the highly acclaimed albums Flower Boy and IGOR, Tyler the Creator (aka Tyler Okonma) is returning to Australia for the first time since his 2015 tour was controversially cancelled.

The producer, rapper and singer was set to appear Down Under in 2015 for his Cherry Bomb World Tour when feminist group Collective Shout campaigned for then-immigration minister Peter Dutton to revoke his visa over lyrics that included references to violence against women. In response to this, Tyler announced that he would “much rather come to Australia when it isn’t surrounded in controversy” and alas, he will now be gracing our shores for the summer festival season.

Tyler the Creator is definitely a surprise among the epic Beyond The Valley lineup thanks to the visa disputation. New Zealand were the first to publicly announce Tyler’s return, with Immigration NZ Border Operations declaring that they are “satisfied that Mr Okonma is no longer deemed to be a potential threat to public order and public interest.

Australia closely followed, festival organisers confirming with triple j that the shape-shifting artist’s visas are all sorted for his anticipating trip to Australia. Debuting at number one on the US charts for his latest release IGOR, Tyler has established his name as one of the most essential voices in hip hop.

Skepta

UK rap pioneer and global grime icon Skepta will also be hitting up the Beyond The Valley festival this summer. His fifth album Ignorance Is Bliss follows his 2016 Mercury Music Prize award-winning release Konnichiwa, which is a solid follow-up to his genre-defining style. Both albums are consistent in delivering an authentic, uncompromising and unwavering eagerness to push boundaries in the grime world, and his energy when performing live is not something to miss.

Skepta last performed in Australia late last year for the annual Listen Out festival, and we are looking forward to the grime trailblazer’s new live performance that’s expected to reach new heights of ferocity and relevance.

DJ Seinfeld

Swedish-born, Barcelona-based producer and composer DJ Seinfeld (aka Armand Jakobsson) is one of the most respected and sought after artists in contemporary dance music. Guided by prolific dancefloor breaks and authentic emotive cuts, DJ Seinfeld pays homage to the early pioneers of house music through his contemporary lo-fi workouts and productions.

Having played Output Festival last year, DJ Seinfeld’s productions will spin crowds into an automatic chaos and like his first lo-fi fuzz release U, festival-goers will expect a voyeuristic performance from one of the most prominent figures in the house scene.

Honey Dijion

Hyped DJ and fashion-forward icon Honey Dijion crosses genres in her exquisite dancefloor sets that are a pandemonium by default. An influential producer and composer in the dance world, Honey Dijion mixes her extensive music knowledge into contemporary and forward thinking creations that is like no other.

Born in Chicago – the capital of house music – you get a deep sense of early ingrained musical influences in her music today, with soul and RnB in present productions. She played in Australia for last year’s Subsonic festival and this New Year’s season she will be sure to captivate more audiences with her distinct and versatile underground sound.
