Who would have thought? Renaissance figures fit surprisingly well into scenes from modern day Naples

Ukrainian artist and designer Alexey Kondakov is part-way through his ongoing project Art History in Contemporary Life, a pursuit designed to intersperse the iconic, celebrated art of the European Renaissance into modern settings.

It’s an awesome concept, but one that could definitely fall short without the proper technique. Kondakov delivers in spades, juxtaposing the old and the new flawlessly.

Alexey Kondakov effortlessly combines Renaissance figures with modern Italian settings in his latest project, Art History in Contemporary Life.

While the style of artwork seen in these classical periods isn’t being practiced by many modern painters, any contemporary artist who has had a formal education will have been exposed to the Renaissance style.

What’s surprisingly is how snugly these characters fit into modern settings. See more of his work below.
