ZZ Top pulls the plug on Hollywood Bowl show with mystery

The rock legends pulled out of their Los Angeles performance one day before the show, leaving fans waiting for answers.

ZZ Top has cancelled its highly anticipated Hollywood Bowl performance with Cheap Trick, leaving fans with more questions than answers.

The veteran rock band announced the cancellation on August 4.

Just one day before they were scheduled to take the stage in Los Angeles.

In a statement, ZZ Top cited “unforeseen personnel matters” as the reason for the last-minute decision but did not reveal who was affected or provide further details.

The Hollywood Bowl confirmed the cancellation on its official event page, stating that the band was unable to proceed with the show.

The venue said ticket holders will automatically receive refunds for tickets, parking passes and transportation purchases. Processing is expected to take five to seven business days.

ZZ Top frontman Billy Gibbons addressed fans directly, saying the band faced “insurmountable obstacles” that forced them to cancel the performance.

“We ask that you bear with us for this brief interruption,” Gibbons said.

The band has not confirmed whether the issue involved Gibbons, drummer Frank Beard or bassist Elwood Francis.

The cancellation has sparked speculation among fans, particularly following Beard’s temporary touring absence in 2025 due to an undisclosed health issue.

However, ZZ Top has not linked the cancellation to Beard or suggested the matter was health-related.

Cheap Trick, who were scheduled to perform as special guests. They moved quickly to fill the gap by announcing a sold-out show at West Hollywood’s Troubadour on the same night.

Despite the cancellation, ZZ Top’s upcoming tour dates remain listed on the band’s official schedule. Including an August 7 performance in Fresno, California, followed by shows in Saratoga and Modesto.

For now, the band has asked fans for patience while describing the cancellation as a temporary disruption. Whether the Hollywood Bowl performance will be rescheduled remains unclear.
