Out of Melbourne, indie roots duo Miles Recommends have released a beautifully diverse EP titled Extended Play.
We’re pretty stoked to have gotten our hands on such a well articulated folk record, and can’t wait to see how their upcoming tour shapes up in light of its release.
Des Atkinson and Lou Cadell have found the sweet spot in upbeat and inspiring songwriting, Extended Play being as poignant as it is pop-soaked.
Crazy House enters as a bright indie pop track. With swinging piano and yearning vocals, this opener is playful and sets up Extended Play as an EP with personality and energy. That groovy little piano solo towards the end wraps it up pretty much perfectly.
Followed by Burn Through, this emotional and yearning ballad is uplifting and cathartic. Cadell bares all and still manages to keep the song positive and comforting with her effortless and natural vocals.
Darkness takes a similar direction, Cadell nailing vocals for with vulnerability and passion once again. Hitting us hard with the fury of love lost and a bittersweet end to a relationship, it’s transparent and overbearing songwriting at its peak.
Backed by that ever present piano, Atkinson comes in with a soft sweet vocal, taking the edge off of her fierce delivery. Finishing up with Just Wanted You and Lonely People, Atkinson takes the vocal lead, showcasing his ability for storytelling and raw, honest lyricism, not to mention dusting off the record on a positive note.
Extended Play is an EP with a real breadth of sound and narrative, a welcome mix of melancholy and inspiration. With energetic instrumental and great vocals, Miles Recommends are a crowd pleaser in every way.
Give it a spin, there really isn’t much not to love.
