In an exciting development, Solid State Logic (SSL) has announced the launch of two new audio interfaces, the SSL 2, and the SSL 2+. SSL, famous since the 1970s for their huge (and hugely expensive) studio consoles, have always been famously associated with high-end audio production.
With the release of these interfaces, the company is hoping to provide studio-quality in home studios.
The SSL 2 and SSL 2+ deliver Solid State Logic’s iconic professional studio quality into your own home studio at a reasonable price.
The SSL 2 features a 2-in/2-out audio interface, two analog microphone preamps with 24-bit/192kHz conversion, and monitor mix control for monitoring tasks. It also features balanced monitor outputs and a high-end headphone output.
A special, additional feature is the Legacy 4K mode, inspired by classic SSL consoles and said to provide analog colour enhancement.
While the smaller interface is focused on personal studio setups for individual performers and producers, the larger provides expanded I/O options for collaborative studio work. Featuring a 2-In/4-Out interface, the 2+ has all the same features as the little brother, but with the addition of an additional headphone output with independent monitor mix, MIDI I/O, and un-balanced outputs for connection to DJ Mixers.
In addition, both interfaces come with the SSL Production Pack, a software bundle that includes access to some of the SSL Native plug-ins, lite versions of Ableton Live and Pro Tools, Native Instruments Hybrid Keys & Komplete Start, and 1.5GB of samples from Loopcloud.
Coming from a company known for its huge professional consoles, this is sure to be a big step up in the home studio industry, offering a new generation of audio enthusiasts an opportunity to tap into an unrivalled legacy. Both interfaces are available now – the SSL 2 is priced at $229.99USD, while the 2+ is priced at $279.99USD. For more information, visit Solid State Logic.
