Certified pop queen Charli XCX has announced that she will be releasing a new album this coming May.
“For me staying positive goes hand in hand with being creative. So that’s why I’ve decided I’m going to use this isolation time to make a brand new album from scratch,” she described in a video posted to her social media.
Charli XCX has announced she’ll be releasing a new album born out of the restraints of isolation, and she’s reaching out to anyone who wants to collaborate.
The new album comes less than a year after the release of her acclaimed third record Charli, last year.
“I’m only going to be able to use the tools I have at my fingertips to create all music, all artwork, all videos… everything—in that sense, it’ll be very DIY,” she described of the upcoming release.
Continuing on she revealed that she would also be reaching out to people online to collaborate with and that she wanted to “keep the entire process super open”. She plans to post demos, acapellas, and text conversations with her and any collaborators. She will also be filming herself in the studio, conducting zoom conferences to ask fans for opinions and ideas, and setting up an email address so anyone can offer input.
“The whole thing, in that sense, will be extremely collaborative because anybody who wants to be involved can explore their creativity alongside mine,” she continued.
Enforced coronavirus isolation has inspired a growing trend of musicians reaching out to collaborate with fans, abandoning traditional barriers between the two. Recently, Grimes released a green screen video for her track You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone, encouraging fans to create their own versions and post them online.
