Kratos actor reveals real reason behind ‘God of War: Ragnarok’ delay

Christopher Judge, the actor who brings Kratos to life, has revealed the real reason for God of War: Ragnarok‘s delay – and it’s surprisingly heartwarming.

When it was announced earlier this year that God of War: Ragnarok has been delayed until 2022 there wasn’t a lot of positivity in the room. Fans had been waiting patiently since the first game in the rebooted franchise came out in 2018, and that patience was starting to wear thin.

God of War director Cory Barlog decided to meet this problem head-on – taking full responsibility for the decision and explaining that the game would only be released when it was ready. And considering all the recent negative press surrounding development crunch, it sat ok with the majority of fans.

However, in a series of revealing tweets, Kratos actor Christopher Judge revealed that he is actually the reason for the God of War: Ragnarok delay. Although said reason isn’t what you might expect:

“I need to be forthcoming. This has been approved by no one. To the beloved fandom, Ragnarok was delayed because of me. August 2019, I couldn’t walk. Had to have back surgery, both hips replaced, and, knee surgery. They waited for me too rehab… ”

So it appears that Barlog, who it should be noted hasn’t returned to direct God of War: Ragnarok, was holding the line for Judge, and if there is one thing that gamers respond well to it is holding the line. Rather than responding with venom fans were quick to voice their support and appreciation of Judge, Barlog and their apparently substantial admiration for one another.

Barlog was quick to reply to Judge’s tweet with the following message:

And that is the precise moment that everyone on the Internet who was watching cheered; the perfect antidote to all the bullshit that has been going on in the video game industry as of late.

After the issue of the God of War: Ragnarok delay had been addressed, Judge continued by highlighting his love for the whole team at Santa Monica Studio.

Another interesting tidbit that came out in the disclosure was that Judge quit Ragnarok when he found out Barlog wouldn’t be directing, but that Barlog ultimately convinced him to return. The extent of Judge’s turnaround is nicely summed up by his assertion that God of War: Ragnarok‘s director Eric Williams is “a motherfuckin BEAST”.

Which has, despite giving me my daily dose of wholesome, left me yearning for a solid AAA title to play right now. If you’re in the same boat I recommend checking out our list of the Best Games of 2021 so far.
