St. Vincent announces upcoming album with new single ‘Broken Man’

Dave Grohl lends his drum sticks to Broken Man, the first taste of St. Vincent’s just-announced seventh album All Born Screaming.

St. Vincent has shared Broken Man, the first single lifted from her just-announced upcoming album, All Born Screaming.

The single brims with off-beat percussive flairs and teeth-baring heavy rock guitars, complete with distorted drum rolls courtesy of Dave Grohl.

Through it all, St. Vincent’s unique vocals shine through, flitting between airy backing harmonies and guttural broods.

Broken Man was produced entirely by St. Vincent herself, and it sees the singer-songwriter confront a troublesome muse with searing takedowns.

“Who the hell do you think I am?”, she spits in between moments of deafening distortion, “What are you looking at?”. The single is accompanied by an official music video, which was directed by visual artist and longtime St. Vincent collaborator Alex Da Corte.

The clips follows the singer — known off stage as Anne Erin Clark — as a debilitated antagonist, appearing unhinged by loss and lust, ultimately engulfed in flames.

Broken Man is the first taste of the singer’s just-announced album, titled All Born Screaming and set for release on April 26.

The project — Clark’s seventh album overall — is entirely self-produced, and serves as the follow-up to the singer’s 2021 albums The Nowhere Inn and Daddy’s Home.

All Born Screaming will add to an already hectic few years for the musician, who co-wrote Taylor Swift’s smash hit Cruel Summer, collaborated with Nile Rodgers, featured on the Metallica song Nothing Else Matters, and launched a rock history podcast titled History Listen: Rock.
