A. Swayze & the Ghosts take aim at social media on their new video

A. Swayze & the Ghosts take aim at social media and those who feed into its mechanisms on their latest musical offering, Connect to Consume. Sonically lined with their jaunty brand of garage-rock, the Tassy quartet pull back the arrowhead and put their complacent generation on full blast.

Of course, the lads couldn’t help but deliver on the visual side of things. The clip for the new track contrasts a dispassionate performance from the Ghosts with over-the-top ‘selfie culture’ portrayed by their charismatic singer and a crew of dancers.

On Connect to Consume, A. Swayze & The Ghosts let you know they aren’t stoked with this generation’s reliance on ‘green-screen success’ through social media.

The success of the video lies in its ability to capture the mindset of the social media generation. All smiles and laughs when you’re dolled up in front of a camera, showcasing a life of luxury that might not actually ring true.

Lead-singer Andrew Swayze evidently has strong opinions on his generation’s reliance on social media for building self-worth.

We are promised the pain of life will numb. We are given a rule for everything. We submit, we succeed. We do not feel; we do not need to anymore. We have accepted the prison and adorned the uniforms under the guise of convenience.

While the passion behind the message is felt, the clip is undoubtedly a fun watch. A marked step up in quality from the group’s past offerings, while still retaining a carefree energy.

The new song comes after an explosive set at this year’s Splendour in the Grass festival out in Byron Bay, and an incredible year touring around the globe. After the release of Connect to Consume the lads will have to hit the road to celebrate.

On their biggest headline tour to date, A. Swayze & the Ghosts will rip gigs around Australia throughout September, October and November.
