Among Us was one of the viral hits of the 2020 pandemic. The devious indie game will finally be coming to PS4 and PS5 later this year.
Among Us is a cute little indie game that took the world by storm in 2020, in a not dissimilar way to the ongoing pandemic. At a time when people were stuck in their homes, slowly descending into all sorts of madness, Among Us proved a welcome distraction.
If you weren’t part of that first wave of fun and treachery, let me give you a brief rundown of what the game is all about. Imagine you and your friends are all hanging out, and for the purpose of our story you’re all wearing adorable hazmat suits. Then, out of the blue, one of you gets infected by a horrible parasite – but you can’t be sure who because the parasite is capable of disguising itself.
If you’ve seen John Carpenter’s The Thing, you know what’s coming. In an escalating game of cat-and-mouse, you and your friends must try and figure out which one of you is infected, while at the same time the parasite-infected member tries to turn the rest of you into fellow nasty parasite monsters.
In short, it’s a recipe for hilarious emotional outbursts, dastardly turns of villainy, and all-around good times. In many ways Among Us functions like a short and sweet party game, and this explains why so many influencers and streamers have spent a great deal of time playing it.

Among Us is finally coming to PS4 and PS5
One of the most attractive things about Among Us is that it doesn’t require a powerful gaming rig to run. It can be played on PC, tablets, Switch, Game Pass, and even your mobile phone. It’s also scheduled for release on Xbox later this year. The body-snatching/parasite breeding simulator is also cross-platform, meaning that groups of friends can terrorise each other even if they don’t game on the same platforms.
However, rather disappointingly, Among Us has never been available on either PS4 or PS5. Thankfully, this is set to change soon.
During PlayStation’s April State of Play event it was announced that Among Us will finally be making its way to PS4, as well as next-gen behemoth PS5. An exact date has not currently been set, although the announcement reported a release later this year.
Special features for the PlayStation version
Players that purchase Among Us for PlayStation won’t just get the vanilla version of the game. Exclusive Ratchet & Clank skins will be made available to everyone playing on a Sony console. This adorable flex won’t have much effect on gameplay other than making PlayStation players identifiable to other players – which now that I think about it, could result in some interesting console rivalry. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Among Us is currently available for free as part of Game Pass. It is also available for purchase on Steam and Switch.
