Australia’s year in porn: how did we shape up to the rest of the world?

By NSFW

Adult supergiant Pornhub has released one of the most in-depth infographics ever in their 2016 year in review.

The article, thousands of words long, details the porn search habits that made 2016 so different. Which country has been watching the most porn? Which country’s users last the longest on site? Who was the most popular porn star of 2016 for women?

For our measly population of 23 million, Aussies certainly pulled their weight in 2016, clocking in at #8 in the top 20 countries for total traffic, and the same position for per-capita visits. Go hard or go home.

We were also a major contributor to Pornhub’s most searched term of 2016 – ‘lesbian’, which was searched far more in North America and Australia than anywhere else.

Another fun fact – Australia comes fifth in the world in terms of average lasting power, spending an average of 9 minutes 44 seconds per visit to Pornhub. It’s no shake of the fist against the Philippines’ staggering 12 minute 45 second average, but at least we’re not Cuba, who are obviously all about the sprints rather than marathons.

By the way, hats off to our country-wide 8 second improvement from 2016.

Our own most searched for terms are a complete turnaround to 2015’s results, showing our continuing presence as a progressive world nation. The only thing that didn’t change is our devotion to lesbian porn, which hasn’t budged in years.

Multiculturalism has shone through in our porn consumers, with ‘asian’ being the #3 most searched term of the year, while the One Nation party supporters searching for ‘Australian’ only porn sit pretty at #11.

Australia has also shown ourselves to be enthusiastic guinea pigs for new technology, as ‘virtual reality’ and ‘360 vr’ climbed around 500% each as search terms.

Amongst the most searched celebrities of 2016 musicians saw a sadly low representation, with only Beyoncé, Kanye West and Prince making it to the big leagues. Perhaps musicians who regularly bear their bodies and souls to their fans don’t entice the same fantasies as untouchable, proper politicians like Boris Johnson? (that one’s a mystery to me too.)
