Forbes has unveiled its annual list of the ‘World’s 100 Most Powerful Women’, and it’s unsurprisingly populated by billionaires.
Beyoncé, Rihanna and Taylor Swift were among those named on the list, which was published by Forbes earlier this week. Of the three musicians, it was Rihanna who took the highest spot at number 73, with the publication citing her billionaire status as the reason for her inclusion. The pop star’s net worth was listed as an eye-watering $1.4 billion, coming courtesy of her hugely successful Savage x Fenty lingerie brand.
According to Forbes, the huge haul means that Rihanna is currently the 2,031st richest person in the world (pocket change to Elon Musk), coming as a smack in the face to anyone who has deliberated whether or not to buy smashed avo on toast. Swift landed six places behind Rihanna in 79th place, with Forbes highlighting her 2022 album Midnights — and the resulting ticketing fiasco — as evidence of the singer’s influence this year.
So powerful is Swift’s cultural domination that the ticketing debacle around her ‘Eras’ tour is currently being addressed by US Congress, and has become the subject of a lawsuit leveraged by fans against Ticketmaster. Not quite reaching billionaire status (poor thing), Forbes listed Swift’s 2022 net worth as $570 million, which equates to nearly four million orders of avocado on toast.
Elsewhere, Forbes calculated Beyoncé’s net worth as $450 million, citing her joint tour with husband Jay-Z as the source of her influence. The publication also made reference to Beyoncé’s headlining Coachella performance in 2018, as well as her 2022 album Renaissance. US Vice President Kamala Harris, TV personality Oprah Winfrey and Australian mining magnate Gina Rinehart were among the list’s other notable names.
It marks Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift’s second entry into the Forbes list in as many years, having placed within the rankings in 2021 alongside actress Reese Witherspoon and Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie Scott. Earlier this year, it was reported that the trio of popstars would each launch their own stadium tours throughout 2023, with only Swift announcing said plans so far. In any case, for all its heralding of billionaires, Forbes’ 2022 list makes one thing clear: stop buying avocado on toast.
