Craft Records will debut The Country Blues of John Lee Hooker on Riverside Records for its 60th Anniversary.
The vinyl will be released on August 2nd and will be cut from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray.
Craft Records promise an acoustic vinyl instead of Hooker’s usual amplified guitar with a “wonderfully varied set of deep Delta blues, moans, boogies, one field holler, and even a bit of hokum.”
The vinyl will portray John Lee Hooker’s “smooth baritone vocals” and utilise traditional folk, country and one-chord blues.
John Lee Hooker was born near Clarksdale in Mississippi in 1917 and iconically was known as the “King of Boogie”.
The record will explore Hooker’s travels and observations about people and the world, just like any unique and successful blue’s record would.
Craft Recordings ensure that the record will be pressed on 180-gram vinyl with a tip-on jacket so that the recording reflects the original sounds Hooker created all those years ago.
“A most authentic singer of the way-back, close-to-the-soil kind of blues,” American Jazz writer Orrin Keepnews wrote in the original 1959 record notes.
Hooker’s gritty authenticity in his record emphasises ageless stories that are definitely worth a listen.
