Back in June, it was announced that a life-sized, bronze statue of Nick Cave riding a horse would be erected in his hometown of Warracknabeal, Victoria.
Now, The Warracknabeal community are moving forward with the concept, and have officially launched a crowdfunding campaign to make the statue a reality.
“A rather beautiful piece of homo erotic art”: The Warracknabeal community have launched a new crowdfunding campaign for life-sized, bronze Nick Cave statue.
Cave and British sculptor Corin Johnson devised the ‘homecoming’ statue concept in the mid 1990s which was to be gifted to Warracknabeal.
The piece of art depicts Cave atop a steed, holding a flaming torch, and garbed in nothing but a piece of cloth around his groin.
Cave has previously described the proposed statue as “a rather beautiful piece of homo erotic art.” And yes, we agree.
On top of launching this new campaign, the small town are also launching the Dawn and Colin Cave Youth Foundation; an organisation named after Cave’s parents which aims to benefit local youth.
“The Cave Foundation will sponsor Artists in Residence programs, school and community projects and events that will create learning, training and employment opportunities,” the community say.
The campaign is looking to raise $250,000… so get donating! Let’s make this thing happen.
