Singer, actor and mother of Cher, Georgia Holt, has died at the age of 96: “Mom is gone,” announced Cher via Twitter.
American musician and actor, Georgia Holt, has died at the age of 96, as announced by her daughter Cher via Twitter on Sunday (December 11): “Mom is gone,” wrote the Believe hitmaker. Holt leaves behind her grandsons Elijah Blue Allman and Chaz Bono, her partner Craig Spencer, and her daughters Cher and Georganne LaPiere.
While details on the artist and mother’s exact cause of death remain scarce, she was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia in September. During that time, Cher was looking after her and reporting on her condition via social media, stating at one point that her mother was “getting better.”
Whilst forging their respective careers, Cher and her mother reportedly remained “inseparable.” Nearly a decade ago, the pair appeared on an episode of Ellen and performed a duet of Holt’s 2013 track, I’m Just Your Yesterday.
Since the news of her passing came to light, a myriad of fans and stars have taken to social media, to pay their respects with heartwarming tributes. Read some of them via Twitter below.
What a splendid mom she was! To love, in the good times, in the bad times; a mom to share life’s journey with her daughter is such a great gift, a treasure of fantastic wealth, only to come face-to-face with such a tragic loss. Fairytales are supposed to last forever.. 😭😭
