Still not sure how to spend your weekend? Happy’s got it covered with our favourite gigs this weekend.

It’s pretty simple – after combing through gig after gig, we have accumulated a list of some personal favourites that are playing this weekend in Sydney. From death metal to bedroom pop to post-punk to electro, there’s a price-savvy gig here for everyone.

The best night of the month!

Make your coffee at home today and save your loose change to check out five of the hottest bands in the Sydney area, totalling out to $1 a band (cheaper than a Macca’s frozen coke these days).

This month’s lineup promises a heavy combination of metal, punk and pub rock, brought to you by Blank Display, Hokkaido, The Smashed Avocados, Southbound and FLUD.

Pink Matter

After being the support slot for musical legends such as Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Internet and Lastlings it is safe to say they have EARNT the right to be headlining their latest tour, GLOSS.

Their sound locks you into what I can only describe as ‘an ass-shaking trance’, complete with hints of soul and jazz.

Joining them is the equally fun and dancey MUNGMUNG, who could pass as the human embodiment of the colour pink.

Yeah. The. Girls.

True Vibenation

What do you get when you mix hip-hop, Afrobeat and soul?

True Vibenation, baby!

Taking inspiration from both their African heritage and the mixed cultures of Sydney, the sound of True Vibenation promises you’ll be on your feet having a boogie.

Joining them will be Vinny Lunar & Lowbeams and Tygua.

Saturday

High Tropics

If The Inbetweeners was made in 2023, they would absolutely use a High Tropics song as the credits rolled.

Overwhelmingly reminiscent of 2000s rock (think Jet, The Strokes and The Vines) High Tropics are bringing the feel-good energy of 20 years ago back over at The Lady Hampshire to celebrate their latest release, Vodka Soda.

Also helping them celebrate is the surfy-bedroom-rock sounds of SUPAHONEY and Civic Video.

Indulge in some cool tunes and a vodka soda (or 7).

dip

“Otherworldy”, “Like playing a stadium to nobody” and “avant-garde garage punk but cool as shit” are just some of the ways dip’s live shows have been described.

Come see for yourself as dip continues their ‘non-stop stadium-esque tour’ in their hometown.

Joining them is the big and the mighty Mayeflower.

miramar

Come celebrate the latest release from miramar with with their full live band PLUS accompanying immersive custom-made light show.

Just like Vivid, only infinitely cooler.

The raw electronic dance trio will be celebrating their newest single ‘Sleepwalking’ with Charli Lucas and Harper.

Sunday

Gene Gibson

Have some warm, comforting folk rock for your Sunday in the form of Gene Gibson, the one-man band who brings you music influenced by poets, drunk nights and heartbreak.

Gene himself invites listeners to “boogie between laughing and crying, drink, think, and boogie again”, which is pretty much my Sunday night routine anyway, may as well throw some live music into the mix.

Joining in the rootin’ tootin’ times are Delta Green and Sapling
