Girl and Girl share new single ‘Hello’, announce debut album ‘Call A Doctor’

Girl and Girl have announced their imminent debut album, which features the frenetic new single Hello.

Girl and Girl have today released Hello, the lead single from their just-announced debut album Call A Doctor.

Brimming with masterful drums and driven by no-bullshit lyrics, the single sees vocalist Kai James tell the story of a young man seeking professional help for his self-destructive thoughts.

“Only tortured thoughts are left,” James sings in his trademark tone atop jangly guitar melodies, “only thoughts of pain and dread.”

Speaking of the song’s message in a press statement, James said Hello is “about romanticising your own misery [and] letting those deep, dark, dirty thoughts take over.”

Hello is accompanied by an official music, which was directed by Tayla Lauren and follows James as he frantically makes phone calls and jams in his bedroom.

Later, we meet the medical professionals at the other end of the line, who grow increasingly frustrated with James’ calls. Watch the music video for Hello below.

Hello is the first single to be lifted from Call A Doctor, the band’s debut full-length project set for release on May 24. Encompassing eleven tracks, the album was produced by Burke Reid and created over the course of two weeks in Melbourne.

It’s said to include a mix of sweeping guitar epics, wry acoustic cuts and to spiky punk efforts, and document James’ personal struggles and stories of anxiety. Ahead of the album’s release, Girl and Girl will embark on their national ‘Hello’ tour.

The six-date run will take place in April, with stops slated for the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Wollongong. Find more ticketing and event info here

The band’s last major release, Fight Night EP, arrived last year, with their band making their debut with 2021’s A Typical Friday Night.
