Red Hot Chili Peppers perform ‘Give It Away’ for the 1000th time in Perth

If you saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Perth on Sunday, you may have witnessed an iconic moment in the band’s history.

According to a Facebook post by Red Hot Chili Peppers fan Lincoln Ciemny, those who attended the band’s Perth concert would have witnessed their song their song ‘Give it Away’ performed live for the 1000th time.

The Grammy winning song is one of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ most iconic tracks. Featured on their 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magic, it won Best Hard Rock Performance and Vocals in 1992.

“I don’t know if Perth Australia knows this” Ciemny wrote in a Facebook group last year, “But assuming no new shows are added or missed, Perth will have the extreme honour of hearing ‘Give it Away’ for the 1000th time live.”

“To ME, this is a huge honour.” He continued, “No RHCP song has been played that many times”.

The band performed at Perth’s Optus Stadium on February 12th. The concert concluded their first Australian tour since 2007, which featured shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Accompanied by Post Malone, the tour was in support of their 12th Album, Unlimited Love, which was released last April.

“2000 isn’t happening”, Ciemny pointed out. So, if this really was the 1000th performance, Perth fans may have witnessed a truly historic performance.
