Fred Armisen, David Cross, Eugene Mirman, Bully, IDLES feature in J Mascis’ clip for ‘Can’t Believe We’re Here’

J Mascis’ “Can’t Believe We’re Here” music video with signature indie charm and a star-studded ensemble.

Pouring the J Mascis love on pretty thick right now at the Happy office, not only has our fav indie rocker dropped a tour announce for his band Dinosaur Jr. but he’s also dropped word of a new album, and revealed a new single and music video to boot.

Mascis has released a track titled “Can’t Believe We’re Here” from his upcoming album, “What Do We Do Now.” But wait, it gets better – there’s a music video featuring a star-studded cast including Fred Armisen, David Cross, Eugene Mirman, among others.

Scheduled to land on February 2, 2024, courtesy of Sub Pop, this album is Mascis’ follow-up to the 2018 gem “Elastic Days.”

Cooked up  in his Bisquiteen studio in the heart of Western Massachusetts at the tail end of covid,  Mascis shared: “When I’m writing for the band,” he says, “I’m always trying to think of doing things Lou and Murph would fit into.

For myself, I’m thinking more about what I can do with just an acoustic guitar, even for the leads. Of course, this time, I added full drums and electric leads, although the rhythm parts are still all acoustic.

Usually, I try to do the solo stuff more simply so I can play it by myself, but I really wanted to add the drums. Once that started, everything else just fell into place. So it ended up sounding a lot more like a band record. I dunno why I did that exactly, but it’s just what happened.”

The album features Ken Mauri of The B-52s on keys and Matthew “Doc” Dunn on steel guitar.

So, mark your calendars,  and get ready for “What Do We Do Now” to drop on February 2.

Until then, let “Can’t Believe We’re Here” be the soundtrack to your anticipation. Watch the music video above.
