Steve Harrington wants to take on Coachella. What’s next, Vecna spinning decks at Glastonbury? Hopper fronting an indie-rock band?
Joe Keery, best known for his role in Stranger Things, is setting his sights on a performance slot at Coachella, following the runaway success of his viral song.
Keery, who portrays Steve Harrington in the flagship Netflix series, has been making music under the moniker Djo since 2019, and has this year enjoyed the runaway success of End of Beginning, a song that first appeared on his 2022 album Decide.
End of Beginning has seen Djo break multiple records over the past few weeks, thanks in part to its popularity on TikTok.
The song — which wasn’t even released as a single — appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, and elsewhere scored Keery his first UK top five single.
Now, the actor-musician has even bigger plans, revealing in a recent interview on Radio X Evening Show that he’d like to perform at Coachella in 2025.
“Oh, that would be fantastic,” Keery said when asked whether he would appear at the festival.
The musician was also receptive to the idea of performing at Glastonbury, but is more focussed on completing and touring his upcoming album. Keery said that the recording of his follow-up to Decide is “pretty much done.”
Keery isn’t the only successful musician within the Stranger Things universe. Maya Hawke, who portrays Robin Buckley on the show, has released two studio albums (with a third on the way this year), while fellow castmate Finn Wolfhard once fronted the band Calpurnia.
At this rate, we half expect the Coachella 2025 lineup to be a version of the Upside Down — because who wouldn’t want to see Vecna spinning some decks, too?
Fans will remember that Kate Bush enjoyed a long-running stay atop the charts in 2022, following the use of her song Running Up That Hill in Stranger Things’ fourth season.
The upcoming fifth and final season is currently in production, with an expected release date of 2025.
