‘Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered’ gives Peter Parker a new face

Details have been revealed for Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, including a major graphical update, a handful of next-gen perks, and a facelift.

In the past few years, gamers have been spoiled for choice with the abundance of remakes and remasters that have become available. Soon, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will join the list of titles that’ll be receiving next-gen facelifts, and now we know exactly what has been updated.

First and foremost, Spider-Man will be receiving a slew of graphical improvements, as we might expect. Models, textures, skies and weather effects have been sharpened up, and the game now boasts ray-traced reflections and ambient shadows – all while targeting a 60fps framerate. Spidey will be looking better than ever clinging onto the windows of New York’s skyscrapers.

Character models, too, are receiving a major upgrade. Next-gen tech will bring high-fidelity shaders for skin, eyes and teeth, all of which will serve to highlight Peter Parker’s brand new face.

According to developer Insomiac Games, face model Ben Jordan better matches the original actor’s facial capture – a change that they promise will help the performances “take on a new life”. That’s one way of putting it, but the community response seems to suggest that fans of the PS4 version find this change to be a little strange.

The game will also take advantage of a handful of next-gen features includeing vastly improved loading times, Spatial 3D Audio, and updated haptic feedback for the PS5’s new DualSense controller. A new photo mode will help make your screenshots shinier than ever, with the ability to change your Spider-Suit and environmental lighting after the shot is taken.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will also include some new goodies as pre-order bonuses, including three new suits, a ‘gravity well’ gadget, and three skill points to give you an early boost in-game.

This remaster will be bundled with the ultimate edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which is set for release on November 12. To read through Insomniac’s full announcement, head here.
