New Kanye West opera to be performed in a power boat stadium

Before anyone had a chance to sit with the achievement that was his operatic debut Nebuchadnezzar, Christian Billionaire Genius Kanye West has announced his second opera in a month.

Mary is scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 8th at the Miami Marine Stadium – a location typically used for power boat races, complete with bleacher seating facing the open water.

Kanye West is premiering his second opera in a month, Mary, in a Miami power boat stadium on Sunday. What part of that didn’t you understand?

A telling choice to premiere this performance on so close to Christmas, West announced the show on Twitter that includes a poster for the show. The poster includes a biblical verse, Luke 1:30-31, that tells of an angel visiting Mary to tell her that she is pregnant with Jesus Christ.

Like Nebuchadnezzar, Mary will be co-directed by Vanessa Beercroft and will feature the music of the Sunday Service ensemble. The event also marks the final day of this year’s Art Basel in Miami, and arguably the second biggest news story to come out of the art fair this year.

Nebuchadnezzar was already an interesting project in a polarising way. There were as many reports of people loving it as as there were of people really not.

Here’s hoping Mary is the Christmas gift Kanye fans didn’t know they needed, it’d be too much to ask for a Kanye Christmas album anyway… an opera in a power boat stadium makes far too much sense.
