It’s been confirmed that Nicholas Cage will play the role of Joe Exotic in an upcoming Tiger King scripted series adaptation.
According to Variety, the eight-episode series will focus on how the zookeeper took on the persona of Joe Exotic, ultimately losing himself to a character of his own creation.
Nicholas Cage is set to play zookeeper Joe Exotic in an upcoming scripted series based on the hit true-crime documentary series Tiger King.
Produced by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios, and written and executive produced by Dan Lagana, the show is based on the Texas Monthly article Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild by Leif Reigstad.
The series will be set in the Oklahoma tiger park, focusing on how Joe Schreibvogel took on the persona of Joe Exotic, and his ongoing fight to keep the park.
This is not the first scripted series based on Tiger King to be announced. Another adaptation based on Big Cat Rescue owner Carole Baskin is currently in the early stages of production, with Kate McKinnon playing Baskin.
Recently, Kevin Bacon said that he would like to play Exotic in an adaptation, and earlier this month, it was revealed that Orlando Bloom was slated to play Exotic in a separate 20th Century Studios film adaptation. Exotic himself has said he would like to be played by either Brad Pitt or David Spade.
Tiger King is an American true-crime documentary mini-series based on the life of zookeeper Joe Exotic and his rivalry with big cat conservationist Carole Basin, as well as other exotic animal collectors.
