Nicki Minaj is killing it! Her single, Super Freaky Girl takes the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Nicki Minaj has become the first solo female rapper to debut at number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart since Ms. Lauryn Hill back in ’98.
It’s been an incredible week of record-breakers, as female artists continue to slay the game. First, K-pop sensations, BLACKPINK scored the most watched video in 24 hours with Pink Venom. Now, Nicki Minaj is following suit, breaking records of her own on Spotify. Her hit single, Super Freaky Girl, has officially topped Billboard’s Hot 100!
In the track, Nicki Minaj has paid tribute to some of the industry’s greats, including Rick James, by incorporating their samples. The singer has pretty much stomped all over the chart legacy of Rick James’ 1981 hit, Super Freak, which peaked at No. 16 on Billboard’s chart. The song also samples the reworkings of M.C. Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This which reached No. 8 on the Hot 100 chart in 1990.
Minaj took to social media to thank her fans, who are affectionately called the Barbz. “You did it barbz. You did it. I love you so much. like so so SO much. Thank you,” she shared alongside a screenshot of her spot on the top 100.
