For months, PlayStation has ceded ground to Xbox in the race to reveal the true capabilities of next-generation gaming. Now, they’ve well and truly caught up, revealing the brand new design of the PS5 console, a digital disc-less version and a host of new peripherals.
To display the full capability of the new platform, however, we needed to see some games. And on that front, the PS5 didn’t disappoint.
After months of speculation, the design of the PS5 has been revealed. ‘The Future of Gaming’ showcase also showed off new games plus the PS5 Digital Edition.
The event was hosted by President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan and kicked off with a retrospective look on previous PlayStation generations plus a sneak peek at an “expanded and enhanced” version of GTA V that will be heading to the new console.
From then on, all trailers showed footage that was captured on the PS5. The titles included:
- Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales
- Gran Turismo 7
- Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
- Project Athia
- Stray
- Returnal
- Sackboy
- Destruction Allstars
- Oddworld Soulstorm
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits
- Goodbye Volcano High
- Ghostwire: Tokyo
- JETT: The Far Shore
- Godfall
- NBA 2K21
- Solar Ash
- Demon’s Souls
- Resident Evil Village
- DEATHLOOP
- Little Devil Inside
Then, the star of the show—aka, the console itself—made an appearance. Looking unbelievably sleek, there was a handful of matching black and white peripherals, including the PS5 Digital Edition (PS5 sans disc-drive) DualSense controller, HD camera and Pulse 3D wireless headset—designed to take advantage of the PS5’s lauded 3D audio.
All in all, there was a lot to take in. To see the action in bite-sized chunks, check out the PlayStation YouTube channel, or strap yourself in for the full shebang below (skip to around 59:30). It’s gonna be a wild ride until the end of 2020.
