“You don’t make friends with salad”, or so the old adage goes. Salad Boys are a group of New Zealanders who, if the ancient sage is correct, have no friends, which makes the fact that they are currently on an eight date international tour all the more surprising. Surely, someone out there must at least tolerate, if not openly embrace these leafy bretheren.
Catch some timeless lo-fi pop from NZ cassette fetishists Salad Boys on their first ever tour over here in Australia.
We introduced the three 3D’s fanboys back in February of this year, our good friend Courtney Duka writing
“My latest kiwi crush is man-trio Salad Boys, who hail from Christchurch. They play a healthy, nutritionally balanced mixture of psychedelic/indie rock, with a touch of (sugar free) pop hooks.”
And then teased us with:
“These guys have just finished a New Zealand national tour but apparently have plans to head to Australia in the near future.”
Kicking off down in Melbourne, you can catch these purveyors of tape-quality guitar pop on Saturday the 10th of May at the Grace Darling Basement alongside gazy, punky favourites Scotdrakula and the surprisingly amazing VCR punk band Rayon Moon. I’ll forgive you if you don’t get Rayon’s vibe straight away, but neck a couple of coopers lagers (the red ones) and you’ll be digging it.
The event tomorrow night is $10 on the door and kicks off around 9:00pm. For details on the rest of their tour dates, see below.
