Dreamy vocals and candid caution; “Earthquake Season” highlights the female experience

Stella Webb delivers a track that doubles as both a call to action and a therapeutic outlet. Pepper spray and flashlights may seem like mundane tools, but they become symbols of power and preparedness against the unpredictable forces of nature and society alike.

London-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Stella Webb isn’t holding back with her deeply honest and raw new release “Earthquake Season”. With her unique blend of modern production and country twang, Webb creates a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh, drawing on her own personal experiences to weave thoughtful and important stories into the lyricism.

The mellow tone of “Earthquake Season” masks the raw emotion and storytelling at its core. With intimate vocals and thoughtful melodies, Webb weaves a second narrative throughout the metaphors of Earthquake-related trauma.

The intimate release touches on a subject that rings all too true for women across the globe; a fear of one’s safety. “I think a lot of women walk around with that feeling,” says Stella, “like their safety is constantly in jeopardy.”

On the surface, “Earthquake Season” could simply be a call for vigilance amidst tumultuous times, specifically the seemingly random nature of Earthquakes. Focusing in on the lyrics, we unveil a deeper layer of the Fleetwood Mac-like dreaminess, “Always check for the fault lines, don’t go out after midnight, pepper spray and a flashlight”

Webb has spoken about how the song was written about a traumatic experience she endured in 2019, which left her with a permanent sense of caution and fear. As she navigates the streets at night, she is constantly reminded that her safety is in jeopardy. “To this day I still carry around this feeling that something bad could happen at any moment, kind of like an earthquake, which can happen without any warning.”

Produced entirely by Webb in her home studio, “Earthquake Season” is a generous insight into Webb’s clever lyrical approach, as well as her personal emotional experiences. The release can be taken at its face value as a catchy and sweet showcase of a talented new artist, however, a deeper inspection reveals a rich depth to Stella’s honesty and musicality that stays with you.

Stella Webb is an artist who wears her heart on her sleeve, unafraid to delve into the difficult topics that we can be tempted to ignore. With “Earthquake Season,” she has created a powerful piece of music that serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of women everywhere.

Keep an eye on Stella Webb as she releases her 4 track EP towards the end of the month.
