The Lonely Island just released a surprise visual album on Netflix

In honour of the 30th Anniversary of the Oakland Athletics’ 1989 champion season, The Lonely Island have created a Lemonade-esque visual album, paying homage to their childhood heroes Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire AKA The Bash Brothers.

The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience is a weird and wonderful 27-minute visual poem experience of parody rap bangers from Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer, with guest appearances from Hollywood stars and pop music sensations.

The Lonely Island has paid a bizarre homage to The Bash Brothers in their surprise visual album The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience, released on Netflix last week.

The Lonely Island released a 27-minute musical poem on Netflix last week; The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience, starring Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer, with guest appearances from Haim, Maya Rudolf, Hannah Simone, Jenny Slate, Jim O’Heir and Sterling K Brown as Sia.

The visual album pays a parodic homage to baseball legends Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire, who celebrated their home runs by bashing each other’s forearms, spawning the nickname ‘The Bash Brothers’. After retiring from baseball, the pair eventually admitted to using anabolic steroids throughout their careers.

The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience is a mockumentary musical where Samberg and Schaffer play Canseco and McGwire, dishing up a heaping of steroid jokes, forearm high-fives and a side of straight-up cynicism.

The video album features 11 tracks where steroid use and existential angst are recurring themes, delivered with The Lonely Island’s signature straight-faced, grotesque, dark comedy that many of us have come to know and love.

Watch one of the clips they’ve released of the track Oakland Nights featuring Sia below.

The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience is available to stream now on Netflix, and it’s worth your time if you love weird shit and a good laugh.
