The SynTesla is a steampunk synth based on a Waldorf String Module

Welcome to the SynTesla synth, a DIY design from Youtuber PJ Tardiveau based around the sound generator from a Waldorf Streichfett Expander.

While it might look a prop from the Sherlock Holmes movie, rest assured, this ain’t no museum piece. With giant knobs taking the place of pitch-benders and mod-wheels, it might take a bit of getting used to. But as the demo shows, everything works and sounds pretty damn good. It takes ‘vintage‘ to the extreme. Waldorf Steampunk Synth

Ever wondered what a synthesizer would look like if it was built in the Victorian Era? Well, we’d say Youtuber PJ Tardiveau has nailed it with the SynTesla.

Pj Tardiveau has taken Waldorf’s string module and given it a very Victorian makeover. The exterior features an array of Steampunk themed gauges and dials, but it doesn’t stop there. The design also incorporates a series of Tesla Vacuum Tubes in the signal chain, which is very fitting of its namesake.

This has got to be one of the most thorough synth mods ever created, but at this stage, there aren’t any specific details on the unit’s specs.

What we can say is that it sounds as good as it looks, just take a look at the video below.
